The impact of the Reichstag
- The users of this building are split between politicians and administrative staff, and the general public.
- The public and politicians expereince of the building are linked in the parlimentary chamber, where the public can view the politicians, and the politicians can view the public. Expressing the idea of an open democracy.
- The building, for me proved frustrating. Long ques meant waiting outside for a long period, before arriving into an incrediably small passageway for such a building of grandeur. Large pile ups in the que, and the passageways did not suggest an orderly line of people to que. When inside there were rigorous security checks (for obvious reasons) and then more queing for the lifts. This unpleasant experience suggested the planning particuarly for the entrance had not been thought about in very much detail. For Myself I found it wasn't particuarly easy to look down into the chamber below, when in te cupola. Therfore I find it difficult to justify the idea of that sense of looking down into the chamber to signify an open democracy, to be a success.
- People think that the Reichstag is contreversial, critics have very differnet opinons on it, supporters of the scheme think it is succesful symbol of an open democracy, whereas others believe, the cupola in particular is a sign pointing in the wrong direction, and that it is an arrogant expression of the behaviour of the past.
- Myself personally, like the idea the building is trying to suggest, but am not totally convinced that it work's on a personal level.
