Social aspects of the Reichstag
-The program of actions was very much to create a relationship between the politicians and the general public.
- idea being the public trusted that it was an open democracy, which they could see and visually take part in the political deliberation.
-The clients wanted very much a symbol of unification to mark the coming together of East and West Germany.
-After unification however there were fierce debates in parliament as to where the parliament and government should be based.
-Bonn was considered to be provinicial however had all of the facilities necessary as it was the capital of West Germany and one argument was, why should they move the capital?
-From this there were lots of contreversial discussions
-A lot of Bavarians were opposed to the capital being moved to Berlin as it would then have more power than Munich.
-There was a choice of three ideas
- Move legislative power and parlimentary power to Berlin
- Keep legislative power and parlimentary power to Bonn
- Move legislative power to Berlin and keep the parlimentary power in Bonn
In the end they decided to move everything from Bonn to Berlin.
