The Third Reich

- After Adolf Hitler had been appointed, the Reichstag burnt down under mysterious circumstances, This provided the Nazi's a valuable excuse to suspend most human rights provided for by the 1919 constitution in the Reichstag fire decree.

- Through this Hitler was able to take legal steps through which the NAzi's seized power.

- The building which was unusable after the fire was used for propoganda presentations and, during the second world war was used for military purposes.

- It was further damaged by air raids during the battle of Berlin in 9145 and became one of the central targets for the Red army, because of its symbolic significance.

- Today you can still see the remnants of soviet graffiti on the walls inside as well as some on the roof, discovered and preserved during the reconstructions after the reunification.
