Why did I choose to analyse the Reichstag?
- Why did I find the Reichstag so interesting? I have found from visiting, researching and learning about this building that it is so different to other buildings in terms of its parlimentary and nation's history.
- The Reichstag is an icon for so much of Germany's history over the last century: ie.
- The Reichstag fire is seen as a symbol of the Nazis taking control or power of the nation, as this is the defining moment which allowed them to take legal steps to rule Germany.
- The Soviet flag flying from the roof of the Reichstag is a symbol or an icon potraying the moment when the Nazis had been defeated and that the Second World War in Europe was over.
- The new glass cupola which hovers above the parlimentary chamber symnolises the the unification and open democracy of the Reichstag.
- It is a living breathing museum of German history which has soaked up major historic events in Germany's history over the last century, however it is not just a museum it will still play a major part in defining Germany's history in the future.
